Show Me Farms
You want beef that is tender, flavorful, and healthy, with no added hormones, steroids, or other growth stimulants. Show Me Farms keeps our beef consistently tender by using only purebred, genetically proven cattle in our “Born Tender Omega Beef". Our steers are raised in grass pastures and are also fed corn, oats, all natural protein, and ground flax seed. We source identify every beef from birth to processing, so that you will know exactly where your beef comes from. About Us: Hello, I’m Don Mayse, and this is my wife, Marylou. We are both graduates of the University of Missouri, College of Agriculture, where we met and married forty years ago. My major was in Food Science and Nutrition, and Marylou’s in Family Management Extension. After twenty years working in town, we decided to “retire” and bought a farm just south of Columbia, Missouri. Show Me Farms began in 1992, the realization of a life long dream. Our initial herd of ten registered Shorthorn cattle has now grown to over 150 mother cows. Since my background is in the meat business—my parents owned a meat company when I was a kid—our cattle operation has evolved into the beef business. It has shown remarkable growth each year and is now marketed under the trademark “Born Tender BEEF™”. In 2002, Jerome Grethen moved here with his family from Northern Iowa to be our Farm Manager. If you shop at the Columbia Farmer’s market, you’ll meet Jerome. He is knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and friendly. He is involved in every aspect of the farm; working cows, selling beef, putting up hay, raising corn & soybeans, and growing vegetables for the Market. Farming is his life! Jerome’s family is involved, too. Kelly, his wife, manages our beef jerky business, “Show Me Beef Stakes”, and markets them in Missouri and surrounding states. Their kids have all been active in FFA and , his son raises laying hens and sells eggs at our store and local Farmer’s MarketsBusiness Hours of Operation
